The art of music creates a special kind of sound. This sound is not found in nature. Musician imitates sound, intonations, sighs, modulations of voice, so music is imitation of sound. The musical image has no visual impact. It does not convey precise concepts. Music is inherently dynamic. It consists of special kind of sound which is rhythmic in nature that is music consists of movements of sound. Thus according to L. Stokowski it is ‘poetry of sound’.
Music is complex type of art and it’s images do not provide pronounced representational function. According to Leibnitz music is hidden arithmetical exercise of the mind. Schopenhauer considers music as secrete metaphysical exercise of the soul and direct expression of will. It has nothing to do with the cognition of the visual world because it is independent of it. Even if the world does not exit, music will exit. On the contrary Spengler considered music to be the supreme form of human cognition. The key elements and expressive means of musical idiom are the melodic intonation structure, composition, harmony, orchestration, rhythm, timber and dynamics.
